He was arrested in December 2019 and was detained for an extended period of 3 years and 7 months. In July 2023, he was sentenced to 8 years in prison for fraud and 1 year and 9 months in prison for picking quarrels and provoking trouble. The combined sentences were 9 years in prison. Before his arrest, he had handled many cases related to industry hegemony, environmental pollution, etc. that were related to people's livelihood rights. He had intervened in the Yang Jia case and the case of pushing the Ministry of Railways not to increase prices during the Spring Festival. He also served as a "rights protection warrior" for two consecutive years. was included in the "Blue Book of China's Rule of Law".
In March 2022, because Hao Jinsong refused to shave head, police officers Gao Yuhong, Qu Biao, and Li Ruiyuan of Shanxi Xinzhou City Detention Center took him to the waiting room and brutally beat him. Several police officers first punched and kicked him, and then beat him on the buttocks more than 20 times with batons, causing Hao Jinsong to be seriously injured and his underwear was stained with blood.
